Anything from word processors to video games can be considered application software. Word processing software such as Microsoft Word can be packaged along with other application software into software suites. Microsoft Office software suite includes word processing, spread sheet, database, and other application software. Other free Office software such as Open Office and Star Office are available as alternatives to Microsoft Office.
