Emilie St-Hilaire is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher of settler ancestry. She grew up on Treaty 1 territory, in Winnipeg’s francophone neighbourhood of Saint-Boniface.
Emilie's artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her recent work explores artificial bodies and how we connect with these figures as more than non-human. The human-computer interaction lab has been an informative and exciting place to think through synthetic relationships with robots.
Emilie earned a BFA Honours at the University of Manitoba, an MFA at the University of Alberta, and a PhD from Concordia University in Montreal. Her PhD dissertation examined the phenomenon of reborn dolls from a feminist perspective. Her research has been cited in The Telegraph (UK), The Guardian (US), Le Temps (Switzerland), Gehirn & Geist (Germany), La Presse (Québec), Cosmopolitan (US), NPR and CBC, among others. Emilie recently published articles on reborn dolls in The American Journal of Play and The Palgrave Handbook on Parenting in Popular Culture.
