Try JEdit its kinda like Textpad, in Ubuntu. It has built in ssh and you can terminal in right from the text editor. I haven't tried it yet but it looks pretty handy, I haven't had any programing classes. Wish I knew about it in Programming Practices and Object Orientation, Vi is brutal for the c and c++ assignments lol.

Just a correction I had Jedit before, but the correct program is Gedit, which is Ubuntu's default text editor. Check it out its a lot like Textpad. Jedit is another Linux editor, my apologies. :) If anyone is reading this and or cares.
